It was fantastic being a part of the first Ultimate Insider Genre conference organised by UCL Music Futures and Daniel Lukes (Black Metal Rainbows). A huge thank you to the hosts for inviting me and for organising the event.
I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to present my paper ‘”End The Hierarchy, Kill The Boys Club”: How Quotas Can Improve In/Visible Representation in Heavy Metal Subculture’, on a panel alongside so many fantastic individuals. While we still have a long way to go in improving diversity and tackling discrimination in metal subculture, we had some fantastic conversations exchanging ideas on how we can actively work towards achieving this goal.
